Almond Breeze Almond Milk: Did you like it?

I tried Blue Diamond Almond Breeze Almondmilk and I love it! I have tried different types of almondmilks and this is by far the closest I have come to a similar taste of cow's milk.  Some of the almondmilks that I tried were too thick or too sweet, but this has a thin consistency to it.   This milk can be eaten with cereal since it is not too thick.  The almond taste is not too overpowering also.  I enjoyed drinking it straight from the glass.

Have you tried this almondmilk and did you enjoy it?

Coupon Use This Week: What You Can Get For Free (or almost free) 8/28/2011

I am starting a new category on what items will be free or almost free with coupons this week.  I will be posting this on Saturdays so that you will be able to plan for your Sunday shopping trip.  Please make a note that there will be NO coupons on September 4, 2011. It is Labor Day weekend.  Let me first begin by saying that I consider free or almost free when there are no reward points or UP+ points involved.  I'm sure that works for some people when shopping, however, I only consider things to be free when I don't have to pay more so that it is used for next shopping trip.  Money is very tight and I want to make sure that what  I get is what I get.

So, for this week (even though I am posting late), here are a couple of great finds that you will be able to get if you have these stores where you live.

Weiss:

I bought 4 boxes of Cinnamon Toast Crunch (My girls love these!).  The store was having a 4 for $6 sale.  Love those type of sales.  Guaranteed to get a box of cereal for under a $1.  I found the coupons for the cereal on Coupon.com, Redplum.com or Smartsource.com earlier.  Always check these sites for coupons on items that you buy all the time.

4 boxes of cereal =  $6.00

Use (4) $0.50 off coupons ....doubles to $1.00 each ($4.00 off)

$6.00 - $4.00 = $2.00

Cereal cost:  $0.50 per box.  Yeah!!

CVS:

I always look forward to dish liquid or dish detergent sales.  The Dawn dish liquid is on sale for $0.99 this week.  Finally, got a $1.00 off coupon for Dawn Plus in the paper.  Bought 4 Dawn at first, but the cashier said that only 3 of the coupons would scan.  Told her to take one of the Dawn off.  No need to argue.  It's going to be free.  Go back later and pick up some more if you get a chance.  I did. I went to CVS twice on one day to get another 4.  (The lady that rung me up on the second time didn't have a problem using the 4 coupons.)  The coupon stated that there was a limit of 4 Like Coupons in same shopping trip.

Dawn dish liquid = Free!

Walmart

I was able to get Reach floss and Double Pack of Reach Toothbrushes for $.032.  The floss was $0.84 and the toothbrushes were $1.99. The combined total was $2.83.  The coupon was Buy 2 Reach products listed and get $2.50 off. Had that coupon for awhile.

Floss and toothbrushes = $2.83 - $2.50 coupon = $0.33.  Love it!

What are you waiting for? ....Go and get those items!  Good week to buy a couple of extra papers.  Especially, if you can get the paper on the street for $1.00.  This was my lucky week.  I bought 4  papers and a couple had double coupon sections inside.  I ended up with six sets of coupons.  That means extra stuff.  Trying to keep my stockpile from getting extremely low.  Any free stuff that is added is definitely a plus.

Almond Milk: Did I Like It?

I have been wanting to try almond milk for awhile since I have read so much info on it.  Every time I drink regular milk, I always feel droggy-like.  I'm guessing that I have problems digesting milk with lactose in it.  So, today I finally tried a commercial brand.  I tried Silk PureAlmond All Natural almondmilk (original).  If you are use to drinking regular milk, it will take an adjustment.  However, I must say that it did not taste bad. Actually, I kind of liked the almond taste and the smell of almonds.  I tried it in cereal as soon as I got it home.  I don't think that I precisely like it in cereal. However,  I did like it straight out of the glass.  It would probably be fantastic with cookies.  It seems a bit too thick for cereal and I am kind of use to seeing white milk on my cereal.  The almondmilk is not exactly white.  It is more of an off-white color.  If I can get past the color, I might be able to use it with cereal.

I know there are different brands, frankly I tried the Silk PureAlmond because I had a coupon and it was on sale at Food Lion.  I paid $1.84 for a half-gallon.  I have read great things about Blue Diamond Almond Breeze almondmilk.  I would have purchased it, but I went with the one on sale.  Since, this is a trial run on almondmilk, I didn't want to waste money if I didn't like it.  Next time I will purchase the Blue Diamond Almondmilk and see how it tastes.  I am definitely not giving up on the almondmilk.  I will definitely try different brands.  It is pretty good.

Have you tried almondmilk?  If so, how did it taste? Do you have a brand that you like better than others?

Make Your Own Saline Mix

Just this year I purchased a NeilMed Sinus Rinse Kit because I have allergy problems and it affects me breathing properly at night.  It is a great product to have for clearing the nasal passage.  It is from a company called NeilMed. The only problem that I have is that the little premixed packages that comes with the kit runs out quickly.  Buying a replacement box of those premixed packages can be expensive.  I think that they are close to $8 for a box of 50 from Walmart.  After careful research, I found that you can make the saline solution at home with products that you probably already have in your kitchen.

Saline Solution Mix:

1/4 tsp non-iodized salt

1/4 tsp baking soda

Add salt and baking soda to:

8oz bottled or distilled water (or used boiled tap water)

It is best to microwave bottled or distilled water to warm it up.  Not hot.  If boiling tap water, make sure to allow it to cool to a warm temperature.  Pour saline solution mix into 8oz of water and mix.

Shopping Trip with Coupons

It has been awhile since I have been on a shopping trip with my coupons to pick up only free or almost free items.  I decided to go out today since it was raining and I knew that the stores would probably be less crowded.  Well, today I picked up these items for a combined total of $2.08.  Not bad.  I recently wrote an article on not finding great coupons in the papers anymore.  I had a couple of okay coupons that had been in my stash for a little while, so I was able to use them before they expired.  The dish detergent and Carefree products came from Rite Aid.  I was able to get all of those items for $1.66.  The dish detergent was on sale for $0.88 each.  I used a $1.00 off 2 coupon and a  $1.00 Rite Aid Video Value coupon.  The Carefree was 2 for $2.00.  I used the $1.00 off 2 Walgreen coupon and 2 $0.50 off 1 Carefree coupons.  That's about $0.27 for each item.  The gum was $0.89 for each Trident.  I used a $2.00 off 3 Trident manufacturer coupon.  That made the gum $0.40 for all three from Walgreen.   There were free items, specifically candy, that I could have gotten from CVS.  I did not get the candy because I am trying to cut down on buying any junk items.  So, I passed on that freebie.  I'll just wait on my next exciting coupon shopping trip.  Hopefully, the coupons will improve over time and I can continue to keep my stockpile from getting too low.  Anytime or any items that I can add to my stockpile is always a welcome.  Hopefully, you had great luck shopping this week with your coupons.
